DA carries out eviction drive
ITANAGAR, May 27: In a bid to clear off the unauthorized structures alongside the National Highway in capital region, the district administration today carried out a massive eviction drive and removed more than 30 structures. The eviction drive was carried out by Additional District Magistrate Talo Potom along with DLRSO, police and security forces both IRBN and CRPF along NH52A from Chandranagar to Gohpur Tinali for the construction of four lane NH52A and the compensation for the removed structures had already been paid to party concerned.
SES distributes aids and appliance to Nafra health centre
ITANAGAR, May 27: The Sajolang Elite Society (SES) has donated five crutches and as many wheel chairs to Nafra health centre on May 25. The items were handed over to the Medical Officer of the health centre during its 8th foundation day celebration on May 25, informed SES president Aju Khonjuju in a release.
The society has also decided to felicitate the Class X and XII CBSE toppers, JEE qualified and the APCS prelim qualifiers belonging to Sajolang community.
The function was attended by all heads of department, elected Panchayat leaders and general public of Nafra.

Slow progress of some projects rankle Changlang DC
CHANGLANG, May 27: The district level review meeting of Changlang district was held today under chairmanship of Changlang Deputy Commissioner Chanchal Yadav. All heads of works department attended the meeting.
The chairman, while reviewing implementation of projects sanctioned under CSS, NLCPR, SPA, NEC, CRF, RIDF, DOTCL, MsDP etc. expressed her dissatisfaction over the slow progress and was quiet unhappy with slow implementation of some projects sanctioned under above programmes. She, however, appreciated the Executive Engineer, WRD Bordumsa for excellent construction of Community Health Centre building at Bordumsa sanctioned under SPA and Executive Engineer, PWD Changlang for construction of Community Hall at Changlang under SPA.
She asked the concerned executive agencies to expedite completion of work and fixed the deadline for most of the projects by 30th June and 31st December 2014 respectively. She further instructed the Executive Engineers to work hard and personally monitor the projects instead of depending to their subordinates. She asked all the Executive Engineers to attend next meeting with full preparation having thorough knowledge about all ongoing projects so that they can interact confidently with the Chairman and other Members of the meeting. Three arrested in illegal coal transportation case
CHANGLANG, May 27: While conducting a surprise raid on May 25 last, the Kharsang police of Changlang district arrested three persons along with vehicle who were illegally transporting coal from Kharsang to Bordumsa side. A criminal case has been registered against them. Further interrogation of all accused is being sought to know about mastermind behind the coal theft. Vehicle and coal has already been seized.

Candle light vigil held to demand justice for Aroti Mize
ITANAGAR, May 27: The heavy shower did not stop the masses as thousands of people from all walks of life took part in a candle light rally starting from Indira Gandhi Park to Solung Mopin Ground today evening seeking justice for late Aroti Mize.
They demanded justice for late Aroti by shouting slogans like, “We want justice, justice for late Aroti Mize”, “Arrest the Culprits”, “We want speedy trial of the case”, “Justice delayed is justice denied” etc. While expressing serious concern over rising incidents and crime against women, National Alliance of Women's Organization (NAWO) Arunachal chapter president Jarjum Ete demanded speedy investigation into the case and also appealed to the people to extend cooperation to the police in their investigation. Mob attacks Tawang MLAs’ vehicles at Rinpoche’s funeral

ITANAGAR, May 27: Even before the mortal remains of His Eminence TG Rinpoche, who died under mysterious circumstance in Delhi on May 16 last, were consigned to flame with proper rituals, angry mob unleashed their wrath at Tawang MLAs namely Pema Khandu, Jambey Tashi and Tsering Tashi and damaged their vehicles during funeral rites at Bomdila today.
Sources from Bomdila informed this daily that trio were escorted out by Arunachal Scouts from Gontse Gaden Rabgye Ling Monastery where funeral was taking place. However no physical harm was inflicted upon three MLAs, added sources. Three sport utility vehicles such as Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor were badly damaged.
It said that the incident occurred around 10:30 am when three MLAs reached at monastery
to pay their last respect to spiritual guru. Somber atmosphere turned violent when
aggrieved devotees most of them were youth agitated at arrival of three MLAs, some
of them allegedly hurled abusive words at them, squarely blaming them for death of

SURGGP demands immediate eviction of land encroachers
ITANAGAR, May 27: Alleging encroachment of institute land by public, the Students’ Union of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic, Itanagar (SURGGP) has demanded the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) to make a spot visit of the encroached land and evict all the encroachers immediately.
The students union in a release informed that the boundary wall of the institute has been smashed and GI nets removed by the encroachers to make shelter and way for their movement.
Moreover, the encroachers have developed bamboo plantation in the encroached area and have started to claim the plantation area as their land. It also alleged destruction of campus boundary wall by battalions from BN colony, Chimpu to make way a through it.
This rampant encroachment is not only disturbing the atmosphere of the polytechnic but also posing a serious threat to future development of the institute, the students union said.
SURGGP also urged various students unions like All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, All Papum Pare District Students’ Union, All Nyishi Students’ Union etc. to visit the spot and take up the matte with the authority.

Nodal dept clarifies, shifts blame on PWD over alleged fund embezzlement
ITANAGAR, May 27: The department of social justice empowerment and tribal affairs (erstwhile Social Welfare & WCD) today clarified that fund released by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs amounting Rs 624.50 lakhs as 1st installment of total estimated cost of Rs 1249.00 lakhs meant for construction of girls’ hostels in Palin area was placed under the disposal of the PWD Central Zone, which is the executing agency, after obtaining necessary FD concurrence.
The nodal department has indirectly shifted blame on PWD Central Zone after All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) rake up the issue demanding termination of alleged involved officers in fund embezzlement under girls’ hotel project.
While disclosing the factual position of the project and action being taken by the Government, the nodal department said that “PWD Central Zone chief engineer would further place/release the fund to executive engineer PWD Sangram for undertaking construction work of girls’ hostels. The necessary codal formalities for award of contract work/supply order against the construction work were supposed to be done by the executing agency. It was the responsibility of the executing agency (PWD) to undertake and supervise the construction work as per approved DPR of scheme and release of payment to contractors on the basis of work done.”
It also disclosed that on the basis of some complaints received from an organization named Arunachal Against Corruption alleging misappropriation of fund released for construction of girls hostels, the state government had sought report from the deputy commissioner Kurung Kumey. “On being not satisfied with the DC’s report, Pooja Jain, then ADC Capital Complex was appointed as enquiry officer to conduct a thorough enquiry into the alleged misappropriation of fund released for construction of 10 nos of girls hostel under Palin circle. The matter is now being submitted to state Govt for further necessary action,” said the nodal department. It further said that 2nd and final installment of fund is yet to be released by the state government in view of alleged misappropriation of 1st installment.
APFA to hold seminar on club management
ITANAGAR, May 26: In a first of its kind, the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) will conduct a seminar on football club management here at the state capital next month.

Art & Culture department has been doing good job

This has a reference to interestingly placed news item published in popular dailies on 23rd May 2014 where the headlines for memorandum submitted by the IFCSAP states that no new project or activity has been undertaken in a long time and where the IFCSAP has prayed for induction of persons with good knowledge of states culture as Minister and Parliamentary Secretary in context of the department of Art & Culture, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh.
It is a matter of record that leading newspapers of the state itself have time and
again lauded the performance of the department of Art & Culture over past few years
highlighting the emergence of the dept under the able leadership of the then Minister
Art & Culture and Parliamentary Secretary and team of executive administrators from
state to dist level. Corpus funds for self sustaining NGOs like the IFCSAP, for cultural
sites like the Tawang Monastery, building of cultural Halls and MPCCS all over the
state, launching of financial assistance for celebration of major festival of the
state, introduction of Dist Art & Culture week annually in the district, felicitation
of artistes working in the field of indigenous arts & crafts, introduction of the
Teacher Learner scheme to revive old arts, comprehensive assistance to indigenous
artistes, exposure of Art & Crafts of Arunachal through international events like
ITM, national folk festivals etc are projects that have seen the light of day under
guidance of esteemed previous Minister Art & Culture and Parliamentary Secretary
strongly guided and supported by Chief Minister of the State Shri Nabum Tuki Over

Power to Panchayat leader only in paper
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to bring some awareness to the PRI members and public as a whole. According to devolution of power to the Panchayati Raj Act in our State, the finalization of deserving beneficiaries of Government Schemes are supposed to be recommended by PRI leaders(GPM,ASM etc.),at grassroot level.
In our 31st Aalo East constituency, while finalizing the beneficiaries, Zila Parishad Member in connivance with HOD and newly elected MLA is superseding the power of PRI members. To my utter dismay, the selection of beneficiaries for Power tillers and Rice Mills under the Chief Minister’s Mechanization Programme are already done by ZPM without the consultation and consent of PRI members.
There is certain apathy among PRI members about this irregularity and disguise meted out against the needy villagers of 31st Aalo East Constituency. Now, it seems the declaration of power devolution to PRI members are only in the paper not in practical. So, this is my earnest request to PRI leaders, not to be just swayed and suppressed, know the basic tenets of devolved powers and its application.

Why so much delay in appointment of new cabinet ministers?

After securing absolute majority in the recently held parliamentary election Narendra Modi took just 10 days (excluding the result day) to invite the leaders of SAARC and finalize his council of Ministers. He also took oath as the 15th Prime Minister of the Union of India along with 45 Ministers in the august presence of dignitaries from the SAARC nations to show an era of new beginning in leadership and regional cooperation. As a blessing in disguise one of our MP has been appointed as MoS for Home Affairs.
What about ours? Ours is a small state...! We too went on a simultaneous assembly election along with the parliamentary election. In our state too, a party has secured absolute majority. We had CM oath taking ceremony within 2 days from declaration of the results!!
Now, why there is a delay in declaring the name and list of Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries? Might be this is the basic reason why ours is a lagging state...!!
Still optimistic that ours too will be a Government of Pro people say in the field of Education, Health, Human Resource Development, Welfare, Safety & Security, Road & Transport Sector (s).

Modi cabinet constitutes an SIT to bring back black money
If the first day action is curtain raiser, then for sure India has finally got a government which is seriously committed for betterment of this country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today meets all the head of SAARC leaders and had discussion on wide ranging issues. In his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Shariff, Modi urged him to speed up the trial of 26/11 perpetrators. In a swift move, this evening union cabinet which meet up for the first time took an important decision of the formation of Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe black money mostly stashed abroad.
This was the first major decision of Modi led government. The SIT will have retired Supreme Court judge MB Shah as its head. During the election campaign Modi had promised to bring back the black money. Although there is no official figure, various estimates put the quantum of black money upto $1.4 trillion. Further it is believed that majority of them has been kept in the banks of countries like Cayman Islands and Mauritius, which are considered to be tax haven. This step taken by new government is indeed a very good one. But Modi should ensure that SIT completes the investigation on time and do not delay.
